Researcher 3D Printed Electronics

3D printing has revolutionized manufacturing as it can bring significant advantages across many metrics: simplified supply chains, less transport of goods across the globe and increased product design freedom. At Holst Centre we believe that the next big thing is going to be 3D printed electronics (3DPE) where 3D printing and printed electronics are being mixed and matched. 3DPE will allow to distribute electronical, mechanical, optical and fluidic functionalities freely across the volume of a product. Imagine customized but still hermetically sealed implantable devices, tailor-made organ-on-a-chip devices but also 3D printed semiconductor chip packaging. For this new and exciting field, we are currently looking for a creative hands-on experimental 'Researcher 3D printed electronics' that can take this topic to the next level.

Your responsibilities:

  • Be engaged in collaborating with application-oriented groups in Holst Centre, to find useful application cases for 3DPE;

  • Ensure tangible results (e.g. demonstrators) and patents are being created, partially through collaboration in multi-disciplinary teams;

  • (Co)-defining the roadmap (applications, functionalities), based on a good view on the market and interactions with (potential) customers;

  • Responsible for leading and/or participating in one or more customer and/or EU funded projects.

What we expect from you

  • PhD level education in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science or a related field;

  • A hands-on and creative researcher with an affinity for applied, experimental research;

  • An organized and goal-oriented investigator with proven record in leading (industrial) costumer projects;

  • Up to 2 years of experience in industry in the field of microelectronics, 3D printing and/or printed electronics;

  • Previous experience in 3D printing (in particular SLA) and printed electronics is a (strong) plus;

  • Pro-active attitude in initiating collaborations both internally and externally, for example with our sister institute CITC in Nijmegen;

  • You are self-propelling and have strong drive to succeed and continuously improve.

The selection process

Please apply before 19 September 2022. The selection process comprises two interview rounds.  In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.
