— Photonics Lab

Holst Centre Photonics Lab, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to integrated photonics research and development in the Netherlands. We provide testing and measurement for photonic integrated circuits, performing device-level and functional measurements tailored to your device, so you can validate designs sooner, at lower cost, and with data you can act on.

The lab is ready, bring your chip

What we do

  • Our lab gives photonics companies and research groups access to specialized PIC testing without building the capability in-house. You send us your photonic integrated circuit or subsystem; our specialists at imec at Holst Centre run optical, electrical, and functional measurements matched to your device, and return a clear picture of how it actually performs.

What you get

Depending on scope, that can include:

  • Optical, electrical, and functional measurements tailored to your device

  • A comprehensive measurement report with raw data and analyzed results

  • Recommendations and feasibility assessments Insight into the real, achievable specifications of your circuit

The goal is simple: actionable insight you can take into your next design iteration.

What we focus on

  • Integrated (sub)circuits, understanding how the full circuit operates and what it can achieve

  • Component-level characterization where it informs the circuit: modulators, lasers, detectors, filters

  • Initial environmental testing, such as basic temperature cycling and thermal stability assessments

Who it's for?

Our lab is built for startups, SMEs, and research groups developing photonic devices. If you're moving from design toward a working, proven circuit, we help you get there with less time and cost spent on testing infrastructure, and more confidence in your results before you commit to packaging, scaling, or industrial qualification.
