New Manufacturing Technologies

Today’s high‑tech manufacturers push beyond what standard equipment was designed to do. Yet developing new manufacturing capabilities or making existing ones more effective requires expertise rarely available in‑house. TNO at Holst Centre provides the knowledge, facilities and partner network to remove those constraints and turn manufacturing ambitions into reality.

Holst Centre's Contribution

TNO’s New Manufacturing Technologies (NMT) department at Holst Centre brings together a multidisciplinary team of experts – scientists, engineers and manufacturing specialists – to tackle challenges that existing equipment cannot solve. The advanced and additive manufacturing solutions we develop often exceed what current machinery can achieve. While our primary focus is on photonics, semiconductors, batteries and health applications, we are equipped to address a broad range of manufacturing challenges. We design, build and integrate new equipment and develop their processes and applications.

NMT develops next‑generation processes and equipment that push the boundaries of precision, speed and design freedom. We design entirely new technologies that meet, or exceed, our partners' exacting standards. We also prototype and validate these designs, from hardware to software to integration. When needed, we access a broad network of expert partners in the manufacturing ecosystem to ensure a rapid and robust development.

Supporting the Dutch and EU High tech sector

Our work has real‑world impact. Holst Centre developments have spun off as independent companies – including Keiron, FononTech and AMSystems,– each now active in the high‑tech manufacturing value chain. Our work directly aligns with both Dutch and European ambitions for a strong high‑tech manufacturing ecosystem, strategic manufacturing autonomy and a focus on key enabling technologies. TNO at Holst Centre helps organisations build the manufacturing capabilities of tomorrow, while addressing cost, productivity, efficiency and scalability demands of today.
