What if the medicines of tomorrow could be produced faster, more safely and at a lower cost for patients who urgently need them?
Today’s biomanufacturing processes often depend on manual sampling and off-line lab tests. These steps slow production, increase costs, and make it harder to maintain consistent quality.
At imec at Holst Centre, we develop process-analytical technologies (PAT) and chip-based sensor platforms that monitor bioprocesses directly inside the bioreactor.
By combining microelectronics, microfluidics, photonics, and advanced sensing, we measure important parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, metabolites, or cell density, continuously and automatically. This replaces slow, manual workflows with real-time, in-line insight.
Our focus
These innovations are focused on improving product quality, reducing variability, and shortening production cycles in biomanufacturing. For companies developing biologics or advanced therapies, this could mean faster, more scalable and more cost-effective manufacturing, supporting quicker, more reliable access to improved treatments.
