The healthcare sector faces challenges that only novel technologies can address.
From overburdened medical staff to shrinking budgets, and from an increasing ageing population to diagnostic delays, novel technologies can offer the keys to better medical care and more targeted diagnostics and treatment. Imec and TNO are developing the technologies today that will create a clear path to better patient outcomes and effective support for personnel.
MedTech from imec at Holst Centre
Imec at Holst Centre develops the advanced chip technology, wireless systems and photonic sensors that are transforming healthcare — from wearable vital sign monitors to next-generation implantable devices. Our work enables a shift from reactive, hospital-based care toward continuous, personalised health management, with innovations like selective peripheral nerve stimulation, the eyeo spin-off and a USD 5 million Gates Foundation grant for vital sign monitoring in underserved healthcare settings worldwide.
MedTech from TNO at Holst Centre
TNO at Holst Centre applies its expertise in flexible electronics, integrated photonics, additive manufacturing, sensor and display technologies to address the healthcare sector’s key challenges. We develop technologies that accelerate diagnosis, improve treatment and reduce the cost of pharmaceutical development. We aim to minimise roadblocks, relieve the burden on healthcare professionals and improve patient outcomes. Our applications range from smart wound treatment to effective 3D pharmaceutical printing, and from photonics-based diagnostic sensing to flexible ultrasound monitoring and Organ-on-Chip innovations.
